My research interest is school development. In my
doctoral thesis I have applied activity theory in a study of integration
of school and childcare institutions. The aim of this kind of integration
– which is common in Sweden today - is transformation and development of
the school pedagogy.
I am currently involved in a EU project called “5th
Dimension - Local Learning Communities in a Global World”, framed by a
subproject called ”School of Tomorrow”. The Fifth Dimension is a
learning model and practice based on cultural-historical theories. It was
developed by researchers (Michael Cole and Peg Griffin) at The University
of California, San Diego and the Laboratory of Comparative Human
Cognition. In my research I have explored the 5thD as a tool for school
development.
In my future research I hope to (1) be able to
explore new forms for learning as a result of integration between school
and childcare. (2) I would like to further investigate what tools teachers
need in order for their integration encounters to lead to productive
development of the school practice. My intention is to work with both
these questions by developing the 5thD as a Microcosm, i.e., a learning-,
research-, and change-laboratory.
